A seasonal product that keeps grazing alive

The Pro-Biodiversity suckling lambs come from extensive sheep flocks that graze in areas of the Natura 2000 Network of the Cantabrian Mountains.

The brand recognizes livestock farmers who keep their flocks on high-value natural pastures and who contribute directly to biodiversity conservation.
The Bearded Vulture Conservation Foundation organizes its sale through a short supply chain, without intermediaries, so that farmers receive a fairer price for their work.

A direct sales model that is fair and linked to the territory.

01

Extensive grazing

The flocks take advantage of the mountain pastures and maintain a traditional activity linked to the natural spaces of the Cantabrian Mountains.

02

Short circuit

The Foundation organizes sales without intermediaries, connecting livestock production with distribution platforms, restaurants and slaughterhouses.

03

Fairest price

At the beginning of the year, farmers directly agree on the price with distribution platforms, improving the net price per kilo.

04

Seasonal product

Production follows the natural cycle of the herds, so Pro-Biodiversity lambs are a seasonal and highly demanded product.

Rural economy and biodiversity

Buying these lambs helps to maintain extensive livestock farming.

The Pro-Biodiversity lambs increase the income of livestock farmers and improve their quality of life, supporting the continuity of an activity essential to the region.

In return, the farmers contribute to maintaining the landscape, conserving biodiversity, reducing the risk of forest fires, and feeding the area’s carrion-eating birds: griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures, and bearded vultures.

In 2020, the Pro-Biodiversity project received the European Union’s Natura 2000 Award in the socio-economic benefits category.
