The Pro-Biodiversity suckling lambs come from the last remaining extensive sheep flocks in the Picos de Europa National Park and its surroundings.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The brand distinguishes lambs from farmers who raise their flocks extensively in the pastures of Natura 2000 sites in the Cantabrian Mountains, contributing to biodiversity conservation. In return, the Bearded Vulture Conservation Foundation organizes their sale through a short supply chain, without intermediaries, so that farmers receive a fairer price. <\/p>\n

The brand began its journey in 2018 with two farmers. By 2024, there are already 22 associated farmers and more than 13,500 kilos will be sold. <\/p>\n

Production follows the natural cycle, so Pro-Biodiversity lambs are a seasonal product with high demand.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the year, livestock farmers negotiate prices directly with distribution platforms, to whom they sell their entire production. Given that this system represents a significant increase in the net price per kilo for the farmer, Pro-Biodiversity is contributing to the maintenance of extensive sheep farming. In return, the farmers contribute to the conservation of biodiversity, and especially the bearded vulture. <\/p>\n

All of this is possible thanks to the participation of livestock farmers, food distribution platforms (Alimerka and Lupa) and restaurants (Paradores) and slaughterhouses.<\/p>\n

In 2020, the Pro-Biodiversity project won the European Union’s Natura 2000<\/b> award in the “Socio-economic benefits” category.<\/p>\n
